William Newcombe
(Australian, 1907 – 1969)

Born in British Columbia, William J B Newcombe was largely self taught. In 1955 he moved from Vancouver to England where his work was exhibited beside that of Henry Moore and other notable artists. He achieved substantial success in Europe in the 1960s, and among institutions holding his work are the Whitworth Gallery in Manchester, the National Gallery of Israel and the Boston Museum of Fine Art.
