Allin Braund (1915 – 2004)

Born in Devon, Allin Braund studied at Hornsey School of Art and taught for three years at Bideford Grammar School. After World War II he returned to Hornsey to teach printmaking and design. Much influenced by Braque and Picasso, his paintings were exhibited alongside those of Henry Moore and Graham Sutherland at the 1954 Venice Biennale. Many major galleries hold his work, including MOMA in New York and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. His later work marked a new approach to the depiction of landscape, freed of the geometric intensity of the earlier output.
